Greetings from Floripa Brazil!

Greetings from Floripa Brazil! We are thrilled to have you following along on our Williams World Tour!

After traveling a total of 27 hours from San Francisco, California, we have finally arrived in Florianópolis, Brazil. This Brazilian island is full of hiking trails, sand dunes, and beautiful beaches. We've been in Floripa for one week and have already explored new beaches, climbed the sand dunes, completed the Cristinho do Santinho hike, and tried new restaurants.

Beautiful views of Florianopolis, Brazil

We can't wait to share all of our recommendations and fun experiences with you during our month-long stay here. So far, we have loved the caipirinhas, Brazil's signature cocktail, and indulged in the freshest seafood this charming fishing area has to offer. And the best part? We're just getting started!

Try a Caipirinha at Home

This zesty and refreshing lime cocktail is easy to make, requiring only three simple ingredients: limes, sugar, and cachaça. Caipirinhas are similar to mojitos but feature cachaça, a clear liquor distilled from fermented sugarcane. Authentic cachaça must be distilled in Brazil from freshly squeezed sugarcane juice, but if you can't easily find it nearby, some US retailers offer 'Brazilian Rum' as a decent substitute. It's worth noting that the only liquid in this cocktail is the juice from the muddled lime and the cachaça, so these cocktails pack a strong punch!

Ingredients

  • 1 lime, cut into wedges

  • 2 teaspoons of granulated sugar

  • 2 ounces cachaça

Directions

  • In a double rocks glass, muddle the lime wedges and sugar together

  • Fill the glass with ice, pour in the cachaça and give it a brief stir

  • Garnish with a lime wedge

*Note: The granulated sugar, when muddled with the lime wedges, creates friction that extracts the oils from the lime peels, which is crucial for a perfect caipirinha. So, don't be tempted to substitute the granulated sugar with simple syrup!
